Cookie Policy
Last updated: 7 November 2026
This page explains the cookies and browser storage SMSTS Mock Test uses, what each type is for, and how to change your choice. The law that covers this is the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), which applies to browser storage as well as cookies.
SMSTS Mock Test is an independent practice site. It is not run by CITB, and our mocks contain no real CITB questions.
1. The short version
- We set no advertising cookies.
- Analytics stay off until you press Accept. The analytics script is not loaded before then.
- Everything else is storage the site needs to work, such as your cookie choice or a mock in progress.
2. What cookies and browser storage are
A cookie is a small file a website saves in your browser. Local storage and session storage do a similar job, but nothing in them is sent to a server unless the site's own code sends it. Session storage is cleared when you close the tab. Local storage stays until it is removed or you clear your browser data.
3. The cookie banner
On your first visit, a bar asks whether you agree to analytics cookies. It has two buttons of the same size and style: Reject and Accept.
- Reject: analytics stay off, and your choice is saved so the bar does not ask again.
- Accept: analytics load and may set the cookies in section 5.
- Ignore the bar: nothing loads, and the site works normally.
Your answer is saved in your browser's local storage. It is never sent to our servers.
4. Necessary storage
This storage is needed for the site to work, so it does not need your consent. None of it tracks you across other sites.
| Type | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Cookie choice | Remembers your Reject or Accept answer | Until you change it or clear your browser data |
| Practice ID | A random code that counts your free mocks when you have no account. Sent to our account service with each mock | Until you clear your browser data |
| Login | Keeps you logged in to your account | Until you log out |
| Mock in progress | Lets you carry on with a mock after a page reload | Until the mock is finished |
| One-time link codes (session storage) | Hold the code from a login, password reset or email confirmation link while it is used | Until you close the tab |
Security check by Cloudflare
Anonymous mock starts and the sign-up and login forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. It runs from Cloudflare's servers and may show a short check.
When you start a mock or drill without an account, the site sends a one-way device hash to our account service to count free use per device. It is made from your screen size, time zone, graphics card and a canvas drawing, and holds no name or contact details.
5. Analytics cookies, only if you press Accept
If you press Accept, our analytics service sets cookies that tell one browser from another, so visits can be counted. They do not receive your name, your email address or your individual answers. What analytics collect is set out in our Privacy Policy.
6. Services that load only when you use them
PayPal. When you pay for a plan, you move to PayPal's own checkout pages, which use PayPal's own cookies under PayPal's cookie policy. These cookies are not set on smstsmocktest.co.uk.
7. How to change or withdraw your choice
Use the Change my cookie choice button below. It deletes your saved choice and any analytics cookies set on this site, then reloads the page so the banner asks you again.
8. Managing storage in your browser
You can block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings. Clearing this site's data logs you out and resets any mock in progress. Your account progress stays on our account service.
9. Changes to this policy
If we add, remove or change a cookie or storage item, we update this page and its "Last updated" date. If the change needs a fresh answer from you, the banner asks again.
